What is the best cream for wrinkles?
I love this question but the answer isn’t as straight forward as you may think!
Its important to remember, what works for me may not necessarily work for you and vice versa.
Because we are all different, we first should ask ourself;
- what type of wrinkles am I trying to improve? Are they Aging wrinkles or are they Dehydration wrinkles?
- Is my current lifestyle and or environment contributing to these wrinkles?
- Am I getting enough sleep?
- Am I stressed?
- What am I already cleaning and applying on my skin? Could this be causing wrinkles and fine lines to appear?
What to do next?
We have so many messages and people around us telling us what has worked “for them” but to truly know what works “for you”, it’s always best to seek out the help of a professional Skin Therapist to help you determine what type of wrinkles you really have.
Woods Lamps and Skin Scanners
Most skin professionals will have a woods lamp or skin scanner machine. Skin scanner machines generally have the capability to photograph your skin under different lights to give you a clear snapshot of where your skin is currently at. Your Skin Therapist can then show you and explain what type of wrinkles you have and answer any questions you may have. They will discuss what treatments may assist with your concern as well as ingredient that will help.
Ingredients that have been shown to be effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles include:
- Retinoids (Retinol, Tretinoin): These are derivatives of vitamin A and are known for their ability to promote collagen production and increase cell turnover which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Hyaluronic Acid: This is a hydrating ingredient that can help plump the skin making wrinkles less noticeable.
- Vitamin C: An antioxidant that can help protect the skin from free radical damage and promote collagen production.
- Peptides: These are short chains of amino acids that can stimulate collagen production and improve the appearance of fine lines.
- Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): This ingredient can help improve the elasticity of the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
- Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs): These exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover. This can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Know What to use and When with a little help from a Professional
It’s important to note, even though these ingredients can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and aid in collagen production, individual results may vary depending on the person, their circumstances and the product being used.
Some products and ingredients can also cause irritation and may need to be ‘introduced’ slowly to the skin. Others may be more effective in the day and some more suitable for nighttime use.
This is why we always suggest speaking to a professional Skin Therapist before diving in and purchasing any or all of the above.
A professional Skin Therapist can properly prescribe what ingredients would work best for you both in the short term and long term and how and when to apply certain ingredients to the skin to help you achieve your skin goals.
